Hal Greer, a native of Huntington, was the first African-American to play for a major college team in West Virginia.
He played for Marshall University, where he scored 1,377 career points.
Greer was named one of the Top 50 Players in the National Basketball Association's first 50 years.

He averaged 19.2 points per game in his NBA career that spanned 15 years.
He was also named one of West Virginia's Top 50 Greatest Athletes from 1900-2000 by Sports Illustrated. |
