PHS- No.12 in the East

Parkersburg Big Reds are selected in the StudentSportsFootball.com 2006 FAB 50 National High School East Region Football Rankings.

*Indicates season complete.

1. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) 14-0 (1)
Tailback Chris Rainey rushed 22 times for 326 yards and touchdown runs of 72, 97 and 57 yards as the Dradnaughts defeated Daytona Beach Mainland (13-1) by 35-24 in the state Class 5A semifinals. It was the 44th straight win for the Dreadnaughts. The victors also got special team scores from Paul Wilson (79-yard punt return) and Ahmad Black (42-yard fumble return). Lakeland will seek its third straight crown Friday at Miami's Dolphin Stadium against St. Thomas Aquinas of Fort Lauderdale (12-1). A win would all but clinch the FAB 50 national crown in the nation's original rankings.

2. Carroll (Southlake, Texas) 13-0 (2)
Junior running back Tre Newton rushed for 198 yards and two touchdowns as the two-time defending state, and FAB 50 national, champion overpowered Odessa Permian, 42-6, in the Class 5A-1 regional semifinal. It was the 45th straight victory for the Dragons, who play Colleyville Heritage (10-3) Saturday at Texas Stadium. Carroll won a regular season game vs. Heritage, 56-7. Against Permian, junior quarterback Riley Dodge passed for 249 yards and three scores.

3. De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) 12-0 (3)
The Spartans had a break in their playoff schedule last week and undoubtedly used the extra time to further prepare for 12-0 Foothill of Pleasanton in this Saturday’s CIF North Coast Section Class 4A championship at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. De La Salle, which won its first two playoff games by scores of 41-7 and 41-25, will likely be picked to play on Dec. 16 at the Home Depot Center in Carson in the first-ever CIF Div. I  state championship bowl game if it gets past Foothill first, of course. (CalHiSports.com)

4. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) 15-0 (4)*
*Season complete. Won state record 4th straight Class 5A title.

5. John Curtis (River Ridge, La.) 13-0 (5)
David Seeman scored on the Patriots’ first play from scrimmage and finished with three touchdowns in a 59-12 win over Clinton in the Class 2A semifinal. Seeman also had 188 yards on a mere seven carries, an average of more than 26 per carry. Joe McKnight scored three touchdowns for the second week in a row. The Patriots will go for a Louisiana record-extending 21st state championship Friday in the State Farm Prep Classic at the Louisiana Superdome. Curtis will face District 10-2A rival St. Charles Catholic in the Class 2A title game for the second straight season. (PelicanPreps.com)

6. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) 13-0 (6)
National player of the year candidate Jimmy Clausen continued to sizzle last week in the Lions’ second game without injured All-American running back Marc Tyler. In a 48-14 romp past Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood in the CIF Southern Section Northwest Division semifinals, Clausen completed 24 of 30 passes for 291 yards and five touchdowns. Most of that went to senior Sean Wiser, who caught 14 passes for 117 yards and three of the TDs. Up next, Oaks Christian plays Oak Park of Agoura (12-1) in its section championship game. After that, the team most likely will be chosen to play in the first CIF Div. III state championship bowl game. Too bad the selectors of those games can’t mix things up and have the Lions play De La Salle. (CalHiSports.com)

7. Northwestern (Miami, Fla.) 14-0 (7)
Quarterback Jacory Harris completed 12 of 17 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns as the Bulls ousted North Miami Beach (10-3) by 42-20 in the state Class 6A semifinals. Northwestern will tackle Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley (13-1) in the finals Saturday at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. Running back Antwain Easterling recorded his 13th season 100-yard rushing game with 243 yards, and two TDs, on 26 carries.

8. South Panola (Batesville, Miss.) 15-0 (8)*
The Tigers won a state record fourth straight Class 5A title with a 28-21 victory over Meridian (11-4). The win extended the Tigers'
